The South Dakota Highway Patrol on Aug. 8 reported two more fatalities during the 85 th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, bringing the total number of fatalities for the event thus far to four.

On Aug. 3, city police attempted to pull over the driver of a 2021 Harley-Davidson motorcycle for exhibition driving near the Iron Horse Saloon in Sturgis, said Zac Bader, of the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

After the driver fled and a pursuit commenced up Boulder Canyon, the motorcyclist left his lane and entered a ditch on U.S. Highway 14A. According to reports from the state Department of Public Safety, he was taken to Monument Health and succumbed to his injuries the next day.
