30 of the best bronc riders in Canadian rodeo were in Stettler on July 30 for the second edition of the Zeke Thurston Xtreme Bronc Riding Challenge.
Tied into the Stettler County Fair and Rodeo week, the event drew a large crowd on an almost perfect evening.
After a brief pyrotechnics display and the introduction of the cowboys, riding got underway, and it did not disappoint.
In bronc riding, both the rider and the horse are scored out of 50, with the two scores combined for a total out of 100–the higher the better.
The talent on display was exceptional — scores that would have easily won at most rodeos didn’t even qualify for the finals. With very few buck-offs, most rides landed in the 80s.
