OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A recent executive order from President Trump has caught the attention of organizations working to end homelessness in the metro.
People without shelter have become more visible in the area. Even from Dodge Street, a major thoroughfare in Omaha, camps can be seen.
These makeshift homes can be more than just unsightly, as what started as an unattended campfire in a homeless camp turned into a major blaze in September of last year , damaging an area business to the tune of $50,000.
In July of 2024, police found a man at a homeless camp near 15th and Ohio streets with a gunshot wound .
