CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) — The Carlsbad Caverns are a New Mexico gem located in the Guadalupe Mountains. It's one of over 300 limestone caves, with a fossil reef stemming from approximately 265 million years ago.

Inside the caverns, there's a large chamber called the Big Room. It consists of natural limestone and measures at 4,000 feet long, 625 feet wide, and 255 feet high. The chamber is considered the third-largest in North America, and seventh-largest in the world.
