INDIANAPOLIS — For as long as anyone can remember, a big part of Michigan and New York streets have been one-way on the east side of Indianapolis .
Now, construction is complete, with two-way traffic and a median separating drivers from cyclists.
Doreen Crenshaw rides her bike in the area very often.
"I live on the far east side, so sometimes I'm in this area. Sometimes I'm farther east, but I ride all over the city," said Crenshaw.
She is looking forward to the added safety.
"It's a legitimate fear of speeding cars and reckless drivers and inattentive drivers," said Crenshaw.
The $16.8 million project converted New York St. and Michigan St. from one-way roads to two-way traffic between College Avenue and Ellenberger Park and it all starts Monday.
