FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Fairhope family is holding onto hope as their baby girl is recovering after her second major open heart surgery.

This is Mary Catherine.

"She doesn't meet a stranger," her father James Ezelle said. "Mary Catherine lights up a room."

Born a twin, Mary Catherine's parents knew early on that she and her sister, Elizabeth Ann, would be inseparable.

"When we found out we were having twins, we knew instantly that they were they were going to be best friends," Ezelle said. "And for every leg of the journey that Mary Catherine's been on, Elizabeth Ann has been right there with her."

It hasn't been an easy journey. Just three weeks after she was born, Mary Catherine had her first major open heart surgery.
