NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) - Officials and law enforcement from three eastern counties gathered Friday to swear in their new district attorney.

Matthew Wareham is now the new district attorney for the state’s Fourth Prosecutorial District, covering Craven, Carteret, and Pamlico Counties.

Wareham was appointed by Governor Josh Stein following the retirement of long-time DA Scott Thomas.

Wareham has been a career prosecutor for over a decade and has served in the Craven County DA’s office since 20-17.
