Watch out and pay attention to the flags flying along the beaches as the weather improves this weekend. A high risk of rip currents is in place for the Northern Outer Banks. Moderate for the southern Outer Banks to Cape Lookout. Due to the northeast breeze, swells generated by the unsettled waters from the Atlantic will continue. The culprit is from an area of low pressure off our coast.
The threat remains low for the Crystal Coast.
If you’re heading to the beach today, keep these tips in mind:
Swim only near staffed lifeguard stations—they’re trained to spot trouble before it starts.
Look for the beach warning flags. A red flag means stay out of the water.
Never swim alone. Always go in with a buddy and let someone on shore know your location.
If caught in a rip current, don’t panic
