GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Wisconsin Public Service (WPS), Green Bay Metro Fire Department, and Green Bay Water joined forces this morning to highlight an important safety message ahead of 811 Day on Aug. 11: always call 811 before you dig.

The three organizations gathered at the intersection of Irwin Avenue and Doblon Street to demonstrate safe digging practices near underground utility lines.

By dialing 811 at least three days in advance, residents give utilities time to mark the location of electric, gas, water, and other underground infrastructure, preventing accidents, costly repairs, and service outages.

Officials warned that skipping this simple step can have serious consequences.
