WHEATON, Minn. (KVRR/KFGO) – Farmers are getting credit for helping save part of the Triple J Seed Farms Elevator in Wheaton.

Traverse County Sheriff Trevor Wright says the city worked most of the day on Thursday to repair a water main break and the water tower was only maintaining pressure to preserve the tower and system.

When the blaze broke out shortly after 5 p.m., Wright says the tower was quickly depleted. A mutual aid request for water and pumper trucks went out to the Dumont, Tintah, and Herman Fire Departments and Wright says farmers used tanker-trailers to haul water to the elevator.

He says the scene will be watched for flare-ups throughout weekend. The cause of the fire is under in investigation.

Wheaton is about 90 miles south of Moorhead on Highway 75.
