GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Students in Guilderland released the butterflies they've been nurturing all summer on Friday. This was the 26th year of the school's Butterfly Station Project.

It's a student-run community service program located at Farnsworth Middle School and is aimed at educating the public on the Capital Region's native butterfly species. Over 60 students took part in this year's program.

"Here, we get to learn about all the different types of butterflies and the foods they eat," rising 9th grader Matthew Stapleton said. "For example, Monarchs eat milkweed. Karner Blue Butterflies are an endangered butterfly that live in the Pine Bush. They eat Blue Lupin."
