LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Republican Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo will authorize the Nevada National Guard to assist in federal immigration enforcement, a spokesperson confirmed Friday.

The guardsmen will help "Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a temporary, administrative capacity," Elizabeth Ray, the governor's communication director, said.

In December, the governor signed onto a letter with other Republican governors signalling his support of the then-president-elect's immigration enforcement policies.

In March, Lombardo told 8 News Now he supported the policy of "[removing] the worst of the worst," implying the targeting of known criminals in the country illegally.
