Community activists across the Upstate are rallying around a group of student athletes at D.W. Daniel High School, being dubbed "The Daniel 4," after an altercation at an off-campus football retreat in early July gained traction across social media.
Roughly a dozen advocates gathered in Pickens on Friday to demand that the students be reinstated to school and that a cease-and-desist order be granted for any suggestions of an alternative program or expulsion. Dr. Brian Smith, acting as a liaison for the media, said he attended two meetings where disciplinary action was discussed.
