SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Christian McCaffrey never has played in a game against the Broncos, but he did get a taste of their defense Thursday.

McCaffrey, a San Francisco star running back who played at Valor Christian High School and is the son of former Denver star receiver Ed McCaffrey, went against the Broncos in a joint practice at the 49ers’ practice facility.

“That’s a good D-line, a really good D-line and a good defense,’’ McCaffrey said afterward.

McCaffrey, a native of Castle Rock who played for the Carolina Panthers from 2017 until being traded to the 49ers midway through the 2022 season, never has gotten into a preseason or regular-season game against the team he grew up following.
