Gunshots were fired during an argument over a parking spot on Thursday night in Kankakee, leaving a boy and an adult woman wounded, authorities said.

At approximately 11:32 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire at Crestview Village Apartments, where officers located a "large and agitated crowd" outside the complex, the Kankakee Police Department said in a news release.

Officers on the scene learned that two people, a child and an adult woman, had been shot, authorities said. Both victims were taken to the hospital in a private vehicle before police arrived.

While Kankakee police didn't immediately confirm the child's age, The Daily Journal newspaper reported the boy is 9 years old. The boy was airlifted to a Chicago hospital, and as of Friday night, his condition remained unkno
