SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK)--- The Smith County Commissioners Court held a special meeting to iron out details of the 2026 proposed budget on Friday.

"There's a huge cost to doing nothing and a great cost is public trust in this commissioners court," Executive Director of Grassroots American, JoAnn Fleming, said.

During a nearly 4-hour-long meeting on Friday, requests for money for what they called "critical needs" from department heads sounded like a broken record.

"This is the third year to get rid of these trucks I bought. I requested they are gonna be on their third transmission, each of them and both of them need a front-end replacement," Smith County Constable Josh Joplin said.
