ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A two-car fatal car accident happened today around 12:25 PM on Route 33 in the town of Bergen.
The driver of a blue Ford Focus, 39-year-old Joseph M. Meli of Batavia, was attempting to pass another vehicle when he struck a gold Hyundai Ioniq 5 head-on, says the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.
Meli was found dead at the scene.
The driver of the Hyundai, Mari K. Hamilton, age 32, was seriously injured and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.
There were three other passengers in Hamilton's car. One, Paul A. Hamilton, age 35, was also seriously injured. In the back seats were two juveniles who only suffered minor injuries. All three were also taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.
The actual cause of the crash is still under investigation.
