Oregon star Kiara Romero came back to force extra holes, but lost in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

Romero was 1 up through eight, then dropped to down 2 after 16 in her match with Lyla Louderbaugh Friday afternoon at Bandon Dunes. The No. 1 World Amateur, Romero evened it through 18 to extend the match and set the pair back to the 10th hole.

Louderbaugh’s putt to win it on the 19th hole lipped out, but she won it on the next hole with an even par 4 on the 11th.

Romero took an early lead after two, but Louderbaugh tied it after five. Romero gained the lead after after seven, then Louderbaugh won four of five to go 2 up after 13.
