POCAHONTAS COUNTY, Iowa —

One person is dead after a serious crash in Pocahontas County.

It happened around noon Thursday on Highway 4 north of Pomeroy.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, a Subaru Impreza driven by Darwin Rosales Castillo crossed the center line and crashed into another vehicle. Rosales Castillo, 31, of Westminster, Colorado, died at the scene.

The other driver involved suffered minor injuries.

According to the latest data from the Iowa Department of Transportation , 157 people have died so far this year on Iowa roads. That number is 18 fewer than at the same point in 2024. The DOT says nine of those fatalities involved motorcycles
