Detroit – It wasn’t looking great for the Tigers Friday night.
Tarik Skubal was knocked out of the game in the fifth. The offense was slumbering since the second inning and they were staring at a 5-3 deficit in the eighth inning.
But there is still some magic, still some fight, left in this team.
Against lefty reliever Reid Detmers, pinch-hitter Jahmai Jones and Gleyber Torres walked to start the eighth. The first two walks of the game for the Tigers.
Manager AJ Hinch sent right-handed hitting Matt Vierling up to pinch-hit for Kerry Carpenter and Vierling got ahead in the count 3-1 and slammed a 95.7 mph fastball into the seats into the Tigers’ bullpen.
The three-run homer sent the Tigers to a 6-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels before a crowd of 35,290 at Comerica Park.
