MEXIA, Texas — The home of a legendary songwriter from Mexia will soon be marked as a Historic Landmark.

The Cindy Walker home in Mexia has been approved for a Texas Historical Marker by the Texas Historical Commission, the Cindy Walker Foundation has announced.

The Foundation has been working to restore the historic home since 2022.

Walker lived at the Mexia home from 1954 until her death in 2006. Over her career, Walker had top ten hits in five decades, from the 1940s to the 1980s, writing songs for artists like Bob Wills, Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, Ethel Waters, Elvis and Frank Sinatra. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2024.
