SAN SABA COUNTY, Texas — Residents in San Saba County, still recovering from the devastating July floods , now have to worry about another threat: scams.

The latest scam comes in the form of a woman pretending to be an AmeriCorps worker, asking for money for what she claims is to help children.

Deputy Sheriff Waylon Chamberlain says people often forget about the more traditional face-to-face scams and urges the community to be on alert.

"Always ask for an identification, make sure it's a legitimate organization because they're going to be wearing IDs and be able to furnish you with a contact number that you can call to authenticate these folks," Chamberlain said. "Be very wary of the high-pressure tactics, especially when someone insists on cash."
