PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Preparations were underway for an annual tasty event that raises money for children battling cancer.
Volunteers gathered at Hy-Vee Grain Prairie to prepare for the upcoming St. Jude Shrimp and Corn Boil. To do so, the volunteers had to shuck about 1,800 ears of corn. This year’s goal is to try to raise $15,000, to beat last year’s total of about $13,000.
Mike Joseph, an event coordinator and St. Jude board member, said he has been involved with the cause for decades. He’s seen how the hospital’s ability to help young cancer patients has grown over the years, and said events like this play a huge role.
