DULUTH — A combined two-hit gem by a Duluth Huskies’ pitching quartet paved the way for a 4-0 shutout victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Friday at Wade Stadium.

The win moves the Huskies to a second-half record of 23-13 with one game left in the regular season.

Huskies starting pitcher Jackson Smith was dialed in from the opening pitch with four-straight shutout innings on the hill, complete with five strikeouts and just two hits surrendered.

Thunder Bay’s Jackson Irwin was equal to the task with three scoreless innings of his own before Reagan Reeder broke the deadlock with an RBI single in the fourth.

Duluth tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth via a run-scoring base hit by Cal Elvis and a Rowan Kelly sac fly.
