DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Over $1 million in regional mobility funding was approved that will allow the South Carolina Department of Transportation to make further improvements to SC-61 in Dorchester County.

The Charleston Area Transportation Study Metropolitan Planning Organization approved $1.5 million for crews to make improvements in two phases on the South Carolina roadway.

The first phase includes adding rumble strips, widened shoulders, brighter pavement markings, and resurfacing work on SC-61 from Summers Drive to Bacons Bridge Road. Officials expect the project to be finished by summer 2026.

The second phase includes adding a 10-foot shared-use path along the corridor, with public involvement opportunities happening later this year.
