OKOBOJI, Iowa (KCAU) — Last summer’s floods affected tourism in Okoboji, but this summer the area is rebounding with possibly the best year ever for visitors.
Summers in the Iowa Great Lakes are always busy with lots of visitors. People come to the boat, play golf, or just see the sights, and this summer could be one of the best ever.
"We've set records in a couple of different locations. Definitely with our VRBO and Airbnb rentals. We've seen a record number of those that are open this year. The occupancy rate has soared through the roof. Of course, that means revenue and hotel/motel tax dollars from those locations are hitting records as well,” Executive Director of the Okoboji Tourism Committee, Kiley Zankowski, said.
According to Zankowski, they've seen 526,000 out-of-market visitor
