The American Red Cross is urging blood donations during National Wellness Month. According to a community announcement, donors of all blood types, especially those with type O positive or B negative, are needed to prevent a drop in donor turnout.

In August, the Red Cross will offer free A1C screenings for donors who successfully give blood, platelets, or plasma. This test screens for prediabetes and diabetes and does not require fasting. Donors can view their confidential results one to two weeks after their donation through the Blood Donor App or their account at RedCrossBlood.org . Each donor is eligible for one A1C test result in a 12-month period.
