ATHENS, Ohio (WSAZ) - Ohio University police sent out alerts while responding to a shooting near campus.
“We provide as much information as possible, but also try to be as concise as possible. So in this case we were fairly certain that the threat was localized to the apartment complex,” said Evan Wilkof, OUPD’s Community Relations Officer.
Police found the shooting suspect dead inside the apartment after one woman was sent to the hospital.
Wilkof said the response could’ve been different if students were in class.
“There would’ve been more of a focus on keeping folks inside the buildings and not, you know, on the sidewalks and walking to and from, because that area of Union Street is very heavily trafficked with pedestrians,” he said.
