Bodies have reportedly been left strewn on the ground of one of New York's most famous tourist hotspots after multiple people were shot in a horror attack.

Social media users are reporting a massive police response in Times Square , at the centre of the world famous city, with clips posted online showing police rushing to the scene overnight.

One user has claimed that three people were shot, however, the New York Police Department (NYPD) have yet to confirm how many people were injured, or if any have died.

A freelance photographer who said they were on the scene of the reported shooting today shared a video on social media showing panic in Times Square, with police seen descending en masse.
