For over four decades , the Pontins holiday park in Blackpool served as a go-to destination for generations of Mancunians seeking an affordable and convenient getaway. Located on Clifton Drive North, the camp was technically situated in Lytham St Anne's but was marketed as Pontins Blackpool, enjoying a surge in popularity following its opening in 1962.

The concept of Pontins holiday camps was the brainchild of Fred Pontin, who launched his first site in a former US army base in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, in 1946. Over time, the holiday camp mogul acquired more sites, expanding his empire to a peak of 30 locations.
