(CNN) - There’s a treat in the sky for many Americans this weekend.

The northern lights should be visible for those living in some northern and upper Midwest states.

Geomagnetic activity could trigger the aurora borealis in as many as 15 states on Saturday. That’s the forecast from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The best time to see the northern lights will be close to midnight.

For the most optimum experience, a dark location away from city lights is recommended.

NOAA has a detailed graphics dashboard on its website that can help pinpoint where and when the light display can be seen.

If the colorful lights aren’t apparent to the naked eye, sensors in cameras and phone cameras can pick them up.
