Saturday's third round of the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Classic saw two Englishmen pass the lead back and forth throughout the afternoon as several major champions tried to chase them down.

Tommy Fleetwood — still in search of his first PGA Tour victory in his 162nd start — is the solo leader at 14 under, one shot clear of fellow countrymen Justin Rose. But neither can blink an eye, as World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and 2025 U.S. Open Champion J.J. Spaun each signed for excellent rounds of 65 Saturday to put themselves firmly in contention heading into Sunday's final round.

Aside from the leaders, there's the mounting pressure of advancement to the next stage of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Only the top 50 in the standings after the action is done in Memphis will advance to next week's BMW Championship in Maryland.

Tommy Fleetwood leads by one after third round at the FedEx St. Jude Championship

Tommy Fleetwood led by three shots stepping up to the 18th tee during Saturday's second round, but he bogeyed while his playing partner and fellow Englishman Justin Rose made birdie, cutting Fleetwood's lead to just one after three rounds at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.

Fleetwood, 34, is in search of his first career PGA Tour victory in his 162nd start. He has a whopping 42 top-10s and six runner-up finishes to his name, but as anyone who has followed golf over the past five years knows, that first win has eluded him in the most heartbreaking of ways.

You don't even have to go that far back to find one. Just a few months ago at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut, Fleetwood held on to a one-shot lead as he teed off on the 72nd hole. He made bogey while Keegan Bradley made birdie to once again crush Fleetwood's hopes of hoisting a trophy on the PGA Tour.

But here we are again, with Fleetwood hanging on to a 54-hole lead after two really good days of golf and one day where he managed to keep it together when it appeared as if the wheels might be coming off.

Rose is right on his heels, though, and so is the most menacing name in all of golf. The absolute last guy you want to see chasing you: Scottie Scheffler.

The World No. 1 made birdie on the 18th to cap off a Saturday 65 which vaulted him into solo third and just two shots off Fleetwood's lead entering the final round. He goes into Sunday in search of his fifth win of the 2025 season, which included a pair of major victories at the PGA Championship and the Open Championship.

Scheffler isn't the only 2025 major champion chasing down Fleetwood, either. J.J. Spaun, who won the U.S. Open at Oakmont in June in the most dramatic of fashions, sits in a tie for fourth with Andrew Novak at 11 under. Spaun fired a 65 at TPC Southwind on Saturday, and it could have been even lower sans a double bogey on the par-4 10th hole.

Scottie Scheffler fires 65 to join a tie for second in Memphis

The World No. 1 is going to be right in the thick of things Sunday in Memphis.

Scottie Scheffler made six birdies and one bogey en route to a 5-under 65 in Saturday's third round, moving into a tie for second as the final group tees off on No. 18 at 5:45 p.m. ET.

Scheffler is already No. 1 by a lot in the FedEx Cup Standings and could widen that lead with another victory Sunday, which wouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

U.S. Open Champion JJ Spaun makes Saturday move at the FedEx St. Jude

Sitting at eighth in the FedEx Cup Standings, JJ Spaun is not worried about making it to next week, or even the week after. There's hardly any pressure on him in that regard.

That could be one of the reasons he's playing really solid golf. This shot on the par-4 12th led to his fifth bridie of the day, and then he made another one on the 16th to get to 10 under for the tournament, in a tie for third with Scottie Scheffler as of 4:30 p.m. ET.

Spaun — who is almost certain to be an automatic qualifier for a spot on the American Ryder Cup Team — owns arguably the best single moment of the 2025 golf season with his U.S. Open-winning 64-foot putt on the 18th at Oakmont. He'll be in the mix Sunday looking to add some of that drama to the final round in Memphis.

Tommy Fleetwood regains solo lead on the back nine

The two Englishman at the top are playing hot potato with the lead Saturday.

Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose have gone back and forth as the solo leaders throughout the afternoon. Fleetwood entered the third round with the lead before seeing Rose charge to a two-shot advantage on the front nine a few hours ago.

Now, as of 4:25 p.m. ET, Tommy Fleetwood is back on top alone after a birdie on the par-4 12th hole got him to 1 under for the day 14 under for the tournament, one shot clear of Rose, who sits in solo second.

Scottie Scheffler creeping up the leaderboard in Memphis

The best player on planet Earth is lurking at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

As of 3:45 p.m. ET, Scottie Scheffler is 3 under for the day and has moved into a tie for third at 10 under.

Co-leaders Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose are still three shots clear of Scheffler at 13 under as of 3:45 p.m. ET, but it can't be fun for those two seeing Scheffler's name creep closer and closer to the top.

As Tommy Fleetwood stumbles, Justin Rose surges

While Tommy Fleetwood stumbled out of the gate on Saturday, posting a double on the third hole and a bogey later, Justin Rose was waiting to pick up the slack.

In fact, with four birdies in his first seven holes, Rose has surged into first as of 3 p.m., completing an impressive leapfrog in a short amount of time.

After the second hole of the third round, Fleetwood led the FedEx St. Jude by four strokes, but by the time he was walking off the seventh green, Rose was holding a two-stroke advantage. Rose is currently projected to jump to third in the FedEx Cup standings as of now.

New caddies for Morikawa, Finau making debut at FedEx St. Jude

Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau and Jake Knapp have found new caddies this week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.

Morikawa has hired veteran caddie Mark Urbanek, who previously worked with Tony Finau for the past five years. Morikawa parted ways with his longtime caddie J.J. Jakovac in late April and hired Joe Greiner. But that partnership only lasted five tournaments together. Morikawa used Billy Foster, who had parted ways with Matt Fitzpatrick, for the Genesis Scottish Open and British Open but had made it clear that he was still in the market for a full-time bag.

Here's more on the story from our Adam Schupak.

Chris Kirk making a run, now up to 39th

Chris Kirk was on the outside looking in, but his hot play at the FedEx St. Jude has him comfortably into the field for the BMW Championship, as of 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Kirk opened the tournament with rounds of 68 and 67, but he's been even hotter on Saturday in the third round, going 4 under in the opening three holes and inching his way up the leaderboard. Kirk is now 9 under for the event, just a handful of shots off the lead.

As of now, Kirk is projected to finish at No. 39, which would put him into next week's tournament.

Fitzpatrick off to another hot start

Just like he did on Thursday, Matt Fitzpatrick got off to a hot start on Saturday, with birdies on three of his first four holes to get to 5 under for the tournament.

The 2022 U.S. Open winner has placed in the top 10 in each of his last four tournaments, including a pair of T-4 finishes at the Scottish Open and British Open.

Is this finally Tommy Fleetwood's week?

Tommy Fleetwood entered the third round of play with a three-stroke lead at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first of three events in the FedExCup Playoffs.

Fleetwood has had the 36-hole lead or at least co-lead six times in his PGA Tour career, but has yet to convert a win. This also marks the second time he's led this season at the midway point: He finished tied for second at the Travelers Championship.

For the record, Fleetwood has 42 top-10 finishes in 161 career starts, and has finished in second a half-dozen times.

Jordan Spieth going the wrong way after finding water

Jordan Spieth needs a big weekend to get into the BMW as he was Bubble Boy at No. 50 after Friday's action, but he's heading in the wrong direction on Saturday.

Starting on the back nine on Saturday, Spieth bogeyed No. 11, followed with a birdie on No. 12, but then doubled No. 14 after he hit his tee shot on the 206-yard par 3 into the water. As for 12:30 p.m., Spieth is currently No. 55 in the standings and will need a run to make it to next weekend.

Who's leading the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship?

That would be Tommy Fleetwood. Still seeking his first PGA Tour title in what is now his 162nd career start, Fleetwood had four straight birdies on the back nine two days in a row now. His lone bogey Friday at No. 18 is the only thing that kept the Englishman from posting back-to-back 63s.

Cameron Young ended his PGA Tour victory drought a week ago. Is this week Fleetwood's time to win?

"We'll see. Happy to put myself in with a chance over the weekend. I think that's exactly where you want to be and keep testing yourself," said the six-time PGA Tour runner-up. "Yeah, it hasn't happened for me yet out on the PGA Tour, but I would much rather be up there and not quite get it done than not there at all, and who knows, maybe this weekend is the weekend and we'll see, and we'll crack on from there. But look forward to tomorrow first."

What is the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Championship?

What is the prize money at the FedEx St. Jude Championship?

The total purse in Memphis is $20 million. The tournament champion will bank $3.6 million. Those numbers are the same as the eight signature events on the PGA Tour.
