A small town girl moves to the big city to pursue her dreams: It’s a tale so common there are musicals about it. Multiple.

That familiar story is Sarah Chaney’s life.

But for a long time, the Waterville native wasn’t getting her happy ending.

After graduating from Ohio’s Miami University with a double major in theater and political science, Chaney’s move to New York City was a grinding exercise in perseverance without payoff.

Competition is fierce: There are only so many Broadway shows; only so many touring productions.

“I was feeling a little like I needed to shake up a snow globe. I wanted a new adventure. New York is exhausting, and I love it, but it’s exhausting,” Chaney said. “I’d always been curious about TV and film, and so I kind of just got the bee in my bonnet.”
