Three victims of the September 11 terror attacks have been identified through cutting-edge DNA analysis, almost a quarter of a century after the atrocity.

Authorities in New York revealed two of the victims as Ryan Fitzgerald, 26, from Floral Park, New York, and Barbara Keating, 72, from Palm Springs, California.

The third, an adult woman, has been confirmed, though her family has asked that her identity remains private.

These three fresh identifications raise the total number of verified victims to 1,653 from the 2,753 individuals who lost their lives in New York in 2001.
