NORFOLK, Va. — Rear Adm. Kavon “Hak” Hakimzadeh assumed command of Norfolk Naval Shipyard on Friday, taking over from Capt. James P. “Jip” Mosman during a ceremony at the shipyard’s Trophy Park.

Hakimzadeh, the 112th commander in the shipyard’s history, now oversees its personnel, equipment and operations. He will lead modernization efforts and introduce new technologies to improve productivity for the Navy’s maintenance of aircraft carriers and submarines.

A Carnegie Mellon University graduate, Hakimzadeh holds master’s degrees from Old Dominion University, the Naval War College, and Johns Hopkins University. He has completed five Pentagon assignments, served as commodore at the shipyard, and most recently commanded Carrier Strike Group Two.
