RANDOLPH, Mass. —

Randolph police are investigating a case of animal cruelty after two puppies were abandoned in the woods. One of the puppies had to be euthanized.

A walker spotted the 11-week-old pups along a path near a school on Barbara Road. Police say someone left them there last Friday.

It's being investigated as animal cruelty, which is a felony.

“Unfortunately we are seeing an increase in calls of animals, whether it is a dog tied to a pole in a random area, or animals left or abandoned. We encourage people to call us, we encourage people to advocate for the animals,” said Randolph Police Sgt. Kevin Gilbert.

The puppy that survived is being treated and is doing well.
