LOUDON, N.H. —
WCVB meteorologist Mike Wankum strapped in behind the wheel of a NASCAR race car at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, hitting a speed of 146 mph.
Wankum, an accomplished motorcycle racer who's used to competing on two wheels at the Loudon course, was invited to compete against other members of New England media outlets.
"I'm serious, these tires are gripping so much. You think you're going to fly out the window of the other side. It's just an amazing experience. And of course, the spotter's telling me, 'You can increase your speed.' And I'm going, 'No! We're going fast enough right now!' Pretty incredible. That's what I have to say!" Wankum said.
Mike finished in sixth place out of 15 competitors.
