COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) has announced that Sgt. Julie Q. Smith, #187, is retiring after over 20 years with CPD. She started in 2005 and spent nine years as a patrol officer.
In 2014, she became a full-time school resource officer (SRO) for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation and began working at Columbus East High School, where she was known as Officer Q. Five years later, she was promoted to sergeant and SRO supervisor.
During her career, she has been a DARE officer, bicycle patrol officer, field training officer, honor guard member, cadet coordinator, and physical tactics instructor.
For over half of her career, she’s been helping to protect local students and provide a safe environment for them to learn.
