American country music legends Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson have sipped a beer and no doubt a bourbon or two there. Local heroes, Oasis, New Order, Stone Roses, and Happy Mondays have "retired" to the same bar too.
Recently The Pogues and their entourage got through a barrel of Guinness in less than an hour. The Smiths, and latterly Johnny Marr and Morrissey have also nipped in for refreshment and in the 70s customers included three members of Queen, Black Sabbath, Abba, Paul McCartney's Wings. and Rod Stewart.
The bolthole for the stars is the Apsley Cottage pub behind the Apollo Theatre in Ardwick. Its walls are covered with pictures of the bands who have gone there after performing at the venue.
