DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A pedestrian is dead after fleeing from dogs and getting hit by a car in Clark County, Ohio on Friday evening.

According to the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Lower Valley Pike near Cloverdale Road in Bethel Township at approximately 9:35 p.m.

The initial investigation found a silver 2014 Chevrolet Cruze was heading northeast on Lower Valley Pike.

The pedestrian, 46-year-old Jason Caponera, from Yonkers, New York, was walking northeast on Lower Valley Pike on the shoulder.

Officials said two dogs from a nearby residence ran across the street and jumped onto him. They said he attempted to escape by going toward the road.

The Cruze hit both Caponera and a dog.

The driver was not hurt. The dog had a minor injury.
