STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City will be under an air quality health advisory on Sunday for ozone, as issued by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Amanda Lefton and State Department of Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald.
The advisory will go into effect at 11 a.m. and will remain in effect through 11 p.m. in the New York City Metro area.
These advisories go into place when meteorologists forecast levels of pollution expected to exceed an air quality index value of 100.
For this particular advisory, ozone, a major component of photochemical smog, is the primary concern.
