FOUR LAKES, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office has identified the sergeant who was killed in the line of duty while assisting with a traffic hazard on .

The sergeant was Kenneth Salas, 59, who served in law enforcement for 34 years. He began his career as a Spokane County corrections officer before joining the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy. Over his career, Salas worked in multiple assignments, including patrol, school resource deputy, traffic unit and the emergency operations team, the sheriff’s office said.

He was promoted to detective/corporal in 2004 and became a sergeant in 2009, serving as the downtown day-shift patrol sergeant supervisor.
