MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — As tropical storm activity increases in the Atlantic Ocean, now is the time for Connecticut residents to sign up for the CT Alert emergency notification system.

The Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection issued a release on Friday urging more people living in the state to subscribe to the free alert system.

“We’re pleased that we’ve seen more people take the time to sign up for CT Alert,” DESPP Commissioner Ronnell Higgins said. “It takes just a few minutes, and it provides an essential early warning for residents about imminent threats to health and safety.”

According to Higgins, more than 5,000 residents signed up for CT Alert over the past month. That’s more than any other month during the past three years.
