NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man involved in a sexual assault early Saturday morning near Fort Hale Park.

Officers responded to a call on the south side of the park at about 8 a.m. Saturday, after receiving a report of a woman who had been assaulted by a man armed with a box cutter. The woman, who was on a morning run, is now recovering from the attack.

"We’re all over this. We did find a crime scene," said Chief of Police Carl Jacobson.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic male, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-7, of medium build, in his late 30s to early 40s. He was wearing a blue patterned polo shirt, gray work pants and brown dress shoes.
