MASON, Mich. (WILX) - Community members in got the chance to take their kids to the Mason Jewett Field Airport to learn about planes at the Young Eagle Rally on Saturday.
The Young Eagle Rally is an annual event that allows children between the ages of 8 and 17 the chance to get a free flight in a small plane.
The flight lasted about 20 minutes, and after the flight, the kids got a certificate and a logbook with a code. The code gives the kids a chance to take a free online flight schooling course.
Margi Clark, who coordinated the rally talked about the importance of the event.
It’s to give kids an opportunity to get close to an airplane that they would might not ever be able to do that,“ said Clark. ”We want to instill a love of aviation. We need more pilots. There is a pilot shortage
