SALT LAKE CITY — The price of electricity continues to spike across the country, especially here in Utah.
Data from The US Energy Information Administration shows the state had the third highest spike in the last year, at 15.2 percent. The average retail residential price for 1 kilowatt-hour of electricity went up from 10.96 cents to 12.63 cents.
The rate spike is double what the US saw as a whole. On average, the country saw a rate increase of 6.5 percent.
Power bills are expected to get even more expensive in the near future. Rocky Mountain Power proposed a 30 percent hike back in July of last year. The proposal got some heavy criticism from residents and lawmakers, including Governor Spencer Cox and House Speaker Mike Schultz.
