Anyone with the stomach and the requisite pathology to binge watch the wildfire that is American politics in the summer of 2025 — the early exit of Congress to avoid potentially exposing powerful pedophiles, the metastasizing legal acrobatics over threats to the Texas legislative map, the spectacle of an imprisoned sex offender making demands at the highest levels of government — knows we’re in a moment where just about all of the adults have left the public arena.

Only the profoundly unserious remain, led by an American president now celebrating his 80th year of badly-behaved childhood. The great awakening of Trump 2.0 is that tragically unserious people can do tragically serious damage.
