When I was of grade school age, it was not an uncommon occurrence for me to make the statement of “I’m bored, there is nothing to do!” Remember that in those good ole days, there was no internet or gaming systems to occupy my attention. My mom’s response was often one of two sentences: “Go work on a merit badge for Scouts” or “Go practice your penmanship." Thanks to her, I eventually earned my Eagle Scout award and have what I consider to be better than average handwriting. She should have suggested, “Go work on your times tables” because I never did develop a fondness or a talent for math. In a reflection of her favorite chore, I should be grateful that her response did not always include, “Go pull some weeds.”
