Republican state Sen. John Braun announced Tuesday he will challenge Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District.
The seat, held by Perez, D-Skamania, since 2022 , is up for reelection in 2026. Perez twice defeated Republican challenger Joe Kent .
In his announcement, Braun, 58, of Centralia, touted his 31 years of service with the U.S. Navy. He also noted his leadership of his family-owned manufacturing company, Braun Northwest. Braun has been a member of the state Senate since 2013. He’s served as the Senate Republican leader since 2020 .
“Whether in the Navy, running a small business or serving in the state Legislature, I’ve always focused on solving tough problems, clearing roadblocks and helping others succeed,” Braun said in the news release.
