Imagine leaving your family and home for months at a time, year after year, working long hours in physically demanding jobs, in different weather conditions, to build a better future for you for your loved ones.
That’s the reality of seasonal agricultural workers in Niagara, said Nancy Garner, executive director of Quest Community Health Centre , based in St. Catharines.
“They’re vital to our farming industry,” she said.
“Niagara produces about 90 per cent of Ontario’s tender fruit and 93 per cent of its grapes. Sometimes we fail to appreciate all those skilled workers responsible for bringing that produce to our tables and prosperity to Niagara.”
